The international chair in automatic control and power grids is at the service of energy transition. A driving force behind future smart grids, it is fully involved in the resolution of industrial problems, relying on open and collaborative innovation as well as the joint resources of RTE and Centrale Nantes.

Forward-looking

The RTE-Centrale Nantes Chair was established to address the wide ranging technological challenges faced in electricity today. Grids have to adapt in the context of energy transition. Bringing together automatic control and electrical engineering within the RTE-Centrale Nantes Chair paves the way for future breakthroughs. This pioneering approach is a key feature of the industrial development strategy for smart grids.

Real industrial challenges

The RTE-Centrale Nantes Chair wArmed with the support of RTE, which operates the largest high-voltage and extra high-voltage network in Europe, the chair is clearly focused on industrial challenges. Power grids have to become more flexible and reactive in order to effectively integrate renewable energies. The development of new tools for simulation, analysis and control – indispensable for successful energy transition – is the main priority of the RTE-Centrale Nantes Chair.s established to address the wide ranging technological challenges faced in electricity today. An innovative process

Operating within an open ecosystem focused on innovation, the RTE-Centrale Nantes Chair brings together broad industrial and scientific expertise. “This chair, with its international ambitions, also sits well at local and regional level. It works in close association with two CNRS[1] research institutes on the Centrale Nantes campus: IRCCyN[2] and GeM[3]” explained Didier Bény, regional representative for the West of France for RTE.

A technological leader

En Combining research and teaching, the RTE-Centrale Nantes Chair aims to be at the forefront of technology on smart grids, in France and internationally. Through its research programme and with the participation of researchers in the Centrale Nantes engineering curriculum, it aims to boost the momentum.
